Belgrade summer festival 2016

Belgrade summer festival – Belef, an international summer festival of ambient artistic, music, theatre, dance and visual program will be held in several city locations between 19th of June until 30th of July.

This will be the 25th edition of Belgrade summer festival also known as BELEF, and the festival unites three arts: scenic (theatre and artistic dancing), visual arts (video, installations, performances and prints) and music. BELEF is held in several city locations – Kalemegdan, Ada Ciganlija, squares, theatres and the streets of Belgrade.

This year’s Belgrade summer festival has a great, rich and diverse musical program, theatre plays and a number of exhibits. BELEF will be opened by a concert of a Serbian band Zemlja gruva and also a Spanish composition Los Mambo Jumbo, on the 19th of June in the backyard of Kapetan Miša’s structure. Entry for this concert if free of charge, and in case of rain concert will be held in Dom Omladine. Los Mambo Jambo, band from Barcelona, has become a household name of rock scene in Spain and in Europe, mostly because of its vibrant performances, original repertoire and a characteristic sound.

Few other concerts will also have the spotlights on them, like the concert of Ibrica Jusić (1st of July), Jelena Tomašević and Novosadski Big Bend (6th of July), Matija Dedić and Zoran Predin (7th of July). This year citizens of Belgrade and tourists will be entertained by an LP duo (11th of July), Youth symphonic orchestra from Netherlands (15th of July), ensemble „Moresca Nova“ from Italy (28th of July) and the State academic ensemble Beryoska from Russia (30th of July).

Festival’s program will also feature a play „Servent of two masters“ of the Serbia national theatre on the 23rd of June, while the soloists of the Opera of the national theatre will perform on 29th of June.

History of Belgrade summer festival

Forerunner of the Belgrade summer festival was the manifestation Belgrade’s summer which was held from 1986 until 1991, and it included a number of theatre plays, concerts and other performances, all performed in open space. The name of the festival was changed into one active now in 1991 when the manifestation became the official festival of Belgrade, and now it is under the jurisdiction of Center of Belgrade’s festivals.
