Visit the Belgrade Zoo

Wherever you are in the world, visiting the zoo is always a good thing to do, and Belgrade Zoo is one surely worth seeing. One of the best things about the Belgrade Zoo is its location. A short walk through the city center and Kalemegdan fortress will soon bring you to Zoo’s gates.

The Belgrade Zoo, also known as Garden of Good Hope, is one of the main attractions of Kalemegdan fortress and park. It was opened more than 80 years ago, in 1936, and was one of the first zoos in South-eastern Europe.

A whole world of biodiversity in the center of the city

A walk in the zoo is a kind of a trip over continents, starting from African giraffes and elephants, to Asian tigers and arctic polar bears. The zoo covers seven hectares and houses a collection of almost 200 animal species, and 10 times more animals. Belgrade Zoo is famous for its albino and white animals, especially from 2005, when it acquired white lions from Kruger National Park in Sout Africa. White lions are since than breeding in the park, and lions cubs are hugely popular among the visitors.

Other animal species in the garden include orangutan, chimpanzee, ring-tailed lemur, Asian elephant, reticulated giraffe, hippopotamus, Bactrian camel, reindeer, Berber sheep, Siberian ibex, Grant’s zebra, South American tapir, white Bengal tiger, jaguar, cheetah, wolf, spotted hyena, brown fur seal, gray seal, mercat, small-clawed otter, red kangaroo, ostrich and Cuban crocodile. Belgrade Zoo has many delightful fountains, lakes, and sculptures, along with the Baby Zoo for the animal’s young.

A family visit to the Belgrade Zoo

Going to the zoo is a great fun time for visitors of all ages, but especially for children. Visitors will probably be excited to find a new area being opened, the Zoo Garden for Kids. It’s a section where the youngest visitors can use the adventure park, and also be in direct contact with animals – the baby goats, alpacas, ponies. Baby Zoo was specially designated to promote healthy living and enjoying nature, as particularly important for the family and kids.

Belgrade Zoo is open every day from 9 am to 8 pm. The ticket price for adults is 550 RSD, for children aged three to fifteen – 350 RSD, while children under the age of three accompanied by an adult are entitled to free admission.

This urban oasis is the place that you should not miss if you are planning a visit to Belgrade, and we sincerely recommend it to all the guests of our hotel.
